Almost Crawling!! (And other news)

Mallory is almost crawling! Soon she will be in to EVERYTHING!! I keep thinking to myself that I only have a few more days until I have to keep my eye on her 100% of the time!! Especially since her big brother has so many little toys she can't play with!!

Also, today I took Levi to pick out his very own potty seat! Even though we already have 2 at home, I thought it would be a good idea for him to take ownership and pick out his own. The 2 seats we have are hand-me-downs...not that that matters, but neither one of them have a splash guard for little boys. We had a little talk and he was excited to go to the store to pick out a "big boy potty". I had to talk to him about what we do in the potty and that I wasn't going to buy it for him if he wouldn't pee in the potty. (Well in my eyes, at least TRY!) He agreed and we looked at all the potties. First he wanted the Lightning McQueen potty, but then he saw Elmo and he had to have it. It's a cool one and you give Elmo a high-five when you're done and Elmo cheers for you. It's cute. Then I let him pick out a toy that he gets when he goes pee on the potty. He picked some letters and numbers for the bathtub. So, when we got home we got really excited to open the box and take out the potty. He wanted to put it in the bathroom and was still excited about it. And then I asked him to take his britches off and sit on the potty. That's where the excitement stopped! I tried to be calm and encourage him gently to just try the potty and not put any pressure on him to pee. Finally he sat on the potty and told me "it's not working." He got up, and I put him back on there a few times, but it still wasn't "working". So, I said let's read a book and try it. Well finally he would at least sit on the potty for a while, but still nothing. No pee. :( Oh well, I'm going to keep trying!!!!

Another thing about Mallory is that she is not a very good eater. I've been trying to feed her solids since she was about 5 months old! At first she wouldn't even open her mouth for me. And if I tricked her and slipped some in her mouth she would gag and make the most awful looking face. I tried everything and just kept on trying thinking that in time she would get it. After a few weeks of throwing away baby food I decided to give it a break! Then after about 6 weeks I tried again, with not much progress. Eventually she started eating a little, but not really opening her mouth for me. She would just move her lips and try to eat the food. I haven't been real consistent on feeding her up until about a week or so ago, because she finally started getting the hang of it!! And when I say that, I mean she will open her mouth about 1 out of every 6-7 bites I try to give her!! It's not fun and I really don't have the patience, but I'm trying. Now, my mom must have a special touch because she can get her to eat an entire serving! I don't know how she does it!!! I know baby food is just practice for table food, so I'm not really worried, it's just kind of annoying. Especially when I have to throw food away. She is getting better, so I have hope!

Here's a cute video of her when she was rubbing her lips together to get the food! At the end she finally took a real bite!! It was one of her first "real" bites!!! :) I was so proud!!!

that video is sooo cute!!
naomi was like the for a while too. her dr recommended we try rice cereal at 4 months! we tried and it was a no go. i have no patience, i stopped and we tried again at 5 months. she was interested but threw up everything (that was when she was having the worst of her tummy troubles). tried again about 5 1/2 months and gave up on the rice cereal...gave her sweet potatoes and that did the trick! turns out she just doesn't like rice cereal.
good for levi giving the potty a try! my niece loves to sit on her potty.

sounds like brityn and levi have the same potty. have you tried just letting him be naked from the waist down while your home? I've been reading some stuff about potty training and one method says for the first 3 days to let them be naked from the waist down whenever your at home. underwear still makes them feel like they are wearing a diaper so more than likely the will still just pee themselves. i believe it cause brityn will use the potty whenever she is naked but put panties on her and she pees in them every time. when you leave the house it says to just put loose pants on them, no undies, no pull ups. the loose pants will still feel naked-ish so they shouldn't pee in them. it also suggests for the first day to not leave the house if poss. the second for an hour but close to home with spare pants in case. the third for a couple hours. some kids will be trained in 3 days. some it can take up to 3 months but all that time keep them out of pull-ups and undies. diapers for bed time of course. and when at home they can be naked or loose pants. we've been doing the named thing for a long time and it does work. she has had 2 accidents i think since we stared it. we only tried leaving the house 1 time with no diaper, a quick trip to great grandma's house. i did have panties on her because this was before i read the no undies thing. anyway, no accidents...

another thing my cousin told me about, she saw it on oprah. kool aid and saltines. took her 3 days to potty train her little boy. you give them saltines to eat all day, they make them thirsty, to "quench" the thirst you give them kool aid. kool aid won't quench their thirst so they just drink more and more. i don't know why this works... but she said it did. you could probably use this in conjunction with the other method it may speed it up. who knows. one thing my doctor did tell me was the more you pressure them to use it the less likely they are to use the potty. so don't stress over it. he will use it when he's ready... or perhaps another method will work :)

the video of mallory is adorable. she just looks like she has no idea what to think of this stuff! great!! she definitely does not look like she is suffering in the weight department due to lack of nourishment :) she is so chubby! i love it!! she is so much bigger than levi was. i hope i get a chubby baby!

p.s. just went to speedy's to see brit and she was wearing different pants than what i sent her with... you may want to mention to levi, if you try the loose pants thing that he HAS to pull his pants down when he goes pee pee! lol!
yeah i guess brit did in fact sit on the potty to go pee but she left her pants up, oops! LOL!!!
